RIPA Stops

What is RIPA?

The California legislature passed Assembly (AB-953) in 2015. Known as the Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA), the bill requires all state law enforcement agencies to “collect perceived demographic and other detailed data regarding pedestrian and traffic stops.” To learn more, see RIPA FAQ.

The UC San Diego Police Department was approved to start submitting data to the California Department of Justice on January 1, 2022.
